In
former
communist
countries,
what do you
call a man
who knows where
Genesis and Exodus
are in the Bible?

(A Pastor)

But you can help change that.

It may seem an unkind characterization or stereotype, but the fact is that there is a desperate shortage of pastors in the burgeoning church of the former Soviet Union and Central Europe. Those who do serve typically are woefully unprepared for the task of preaching God's Word and shepherding His flock.

Would you consider giving something you already have -- something you uniquely possess -- for the sake of the burgeoning church in former communist lands?

Share your own academic training, pastoral experience and passion for ministry with your colleagues overseas.

What are the needs?

ITEM has 2-3 week teaching opportunities in Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania. Needed are pastors with a love for teaching, an ability to develop and teach a course on a basic Bible college or seminary level and an ability to apply Biblical doctrine to pastoral practice. See below for a sample listing of needed courses.

What are the requirements?

Lecturers must have at least an M.Div. degree and must have the backing of their church Council or Session. They must hold unquestioningly to the historic doctrines of the Reformed faith as contained in the confessions of faith such as the Westminster Confession of Faith, Belgic, Helvetic, etc. Lecturers are asked to invite their home churches, friends and others to support the cost of their ministry overseas.

What is the cost?

The cost is in the $2,000-2,500 range, depending on the country and length of stay. This cost covers round trip transport airfare, visas where required, in country and local transportation and all meals and lodging. Lecturers are responsible to secure and possess a valid passport from their country of citizenship. Personal spending money is up to the lecturer.

What is the benefit?

Personal and spiritual refreshment, an expanded world view, a reinvigorated ministry.
